Your online dating profile is what sets you aside from the rest of the site. It’s what a man or woman will see first when they’re matched with you, and it is just as important as an in-person first impression. So, how can you build the best profile possible? Here are some tips and tricks!

Take A Good Picture

With online dating a picture really IS a thousand words. Your profile picture needs to say everything about you without any words, because a lot of times this is what is going to attract people to you. Your picture should be recent and look the most like you as possible. For women, headshots that showcase a smile are most popular. Modesty can also go a long way in attracting the kind of men or women you want. For guys, action sports shots are most popular. Avoid party pictures and pictures that have you wearing sunglasses.

Avoid Clichés

No matter how much you might like “fine wine and good dining” or “long walks on the beach,” avoid these on your profile. Clichés can make you look desperate and fake.

Ask Your Friends For Help

Ask friends and family how they would describe you. Use their adjectives to help beef up your profile. You can’t always see what is amazing about yourself, which can make your profile appear flat and lifeless.

Check Your Grammar

Nothing kills sex appeal much like a man or woman who doesn’t know how to speak. The online equivalent to speaking is your grammar and spelling. Watch out for these things on your profile. If need be, ask a trusty friend to proof read what you’ve written BEFORE it goes live.

Keep It Short

The phrase “short and sweet” really does count when it comes to online interactions. What is shown to the public before they click on your full profile should be very short and just give a small taste of who you are. No one wants to read 3 or 4 paragraphs about someone they might not even find interesting. Make it short but intriguing; make your matches want to start a chat with you.

Don’t Be Arrogant

Although your profile should be about you, don’t make it “braggy.” Highlighting how amazing you are is extremely arrogant and can distract form your true intentions and personality. There is a difference between bragging and highlighting your accomplishments.

Don’t Be Demanding

Some people will put in their profile that they’ll only date someone with certain colored eyes or who have a certain salary. These demands will get you nowhere. Often times, amazing men and woman will be turned away by your demanding nature and not even give you a second look.

Building your profile does not have to be difficult. It may seem like a daunting task at first, but don’t over think it. Simply be yourself and be positive. A positive and happy vibe will come through any writing and being yourself will attract the kinds of people you want to be with.
